The thrift store also provided a skirt. Tough to find one big enough, but there was one (a bit large, actually) in the right color. It was full-length when I started. Cut away half the length and add some notches for the odd Roman effect. Then hemming it was a snap with Steam-A-Seam. Some blue fabric cut from another thriftstore find that matched the jacket provided all of the necessary striping material. |
More staring at Galactus pictures and it was time to play jigsaw puzzle with the blue fabric. Then attach everything with a lot more Steam-A-Seam! Have I mentioned I love this stuff? |
Finally, the boots. Boot spats, really. Everything for these came
from a trip to the local drugstore: a cut-up plastic binder, some
thinner plastic binder sleeves, and translucent plates all converged
thanks to sticky-back Velcro.
Incidentally, there wasn't so much a definite plan for making all this into boots as there were just some general design ideas. Things developed as they went along. I got lucky; as it happened, the first set of ideas worked out really well and there was only one major change along the way to how it would all assemble. They ended up looking great! |
