The truly great find was the jacket--blue leather for just twenty bucks at the local thrift store. I didn't actually take any "before" pictures, so for this shot I just covered up some of the butchering that this poor thing took.

I stared at Galactus pictures (these and others) a lot while actually cutting into the thing. It was in tatters, but then held back together to a cheap sweater thanks to my new best friend, Steam-A-Seam! This is a slightly sticky plastic tape that melts into a permanent bond when you iron it. I used tons of the stuff. Add on a couple of bits of fabric and plastic, and when all was said and done it was the Mantle of Galactus!
