Remember those gouged-out slits? They firmly hold the side-bar pieces in place, Tab-A into Slot-B.
The cone things are glued.

Starting to look pretty cool! Next step is painting, so that the seams between the original block and the various added pieces will be much less prominent (especially on the whole front face).
